Chris and his sister Carine McCandless had a very close relationship, even when he struggled to connect with others. Write about a relationship in your life where you feel truly understood. Explain what makes that relationship strong and how it compares to the connection between Chris and Carine in Into the Wild.

A connection I have like that is with my sister. We have always understood each other because she is so mellow. When I wanted to do anything active I would go with my brother and have fun. But if I wanted to talk and relax I would with Emerson because she was always relaxing. It was nice because it was someone to talk to who wasn't an adult. I like talking to my parents but you cant talk to them the same way you can with your sibling. I can't cuss around my parents and sometimes that's the best way to express the emotion.  Today in class we read chapter 13. We also answered 7 questions about what we read. Today I learned how to solve for equilibriums.

Pick one of the connection based questions and answer it in your blog. Be sure to write out the question.

"reflect on a situation where you felt confident in your abilities. How did that confidence influence your choice or effort?" Throughout my life, I have been driving jet skis. When I got my boat license at 12, the first things I drove was a Boston whaler and a sea Doo. I have always been cocky because I felt I spent so much time on them. Over the summer I decided to go find my brother( who was on the pontoon boat). When I found him I thought it would be a good idea to spray the boat with water. I had no idea how powerful the blast coming out of the back of the jet ski really is. I blew the entire side wall in and some seats were ripped off the nails. I threw 2 of his friends in with the water and soaked the boat. I was over confident and it could have ended more badly. My over confidence made my choose to think I could do this and there would be no consequences. Today in class we talked a lot. I left early to go see Jordan the trainer. Today I learned how painful electro-the...

Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, does the visual version of Chris’s journey make his choices seem more justified or more reckless than the text does? Explain how the medium (film vs writing) shapes your perspective.

To me they seem more reckless because it seems like his parents do care. They seem a little stern but it seems like they are supportive. They go to his graduation and take him out to dinner. His sister seems like she cares a lot. They even ask about college and offer to buy him a new car. He seems upset that they even offered to give him a new car. I understand the motives behind his actions from the book, but if I hadn't read the book then I would think he is a very reckless teen. Today in class we watched some of the movie. We also had to answer these questions on illuminate. Today I learned about brake calipers.

Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

I started realizing how supportive my parents really were. I was getting to an age where I was aware of peoples relationships with their parents. I could see my friends constantly arguing with their parents. With mine I never would argue but would talk to them. It made me feel like I was being heard. This is different from Alex because his parents kept secrets. With his dad he never felt like he fully connected. Today in class we read some of the books. We also got this really long assignment. Today I learned where to find a U-joint.

Reflect on your reading of Into the Wild chapters 1–10. Which chapter stood out to you the most, and why? In your response, explain what specifically made this chapter meaningful, interesting, or impactful. You may consider elements such as McCandless’s actions, a key event, a theme, or Krakauer’s storytelling.

Alex stood out to me the most because he was an adventurous young man. We aren't the same age but we are close and it makes me try to put myself in his shoes. I try to imagine how my parents would react if I had just left college, gave all the money away, and vanished without any supplies. I compare this to my parents and see how fast I would get in trouble. Then I realize I live my own life and they can't control it. The most impact thing for me was just him making the decision to leave. He felt strongly and made his mind fast. This impacts me because I am a very indecisive person and often have to consult with friends to help me choose. Today in class we took a test. We also watched March madness. One thing I learned today was that Chuck Norris died.

Chris McCandless rejects a traditional path of success and instead defines success on his own terms through freedom, experience, and personal meaning. Reflect on what success means to you at your current stage in life. In the response, explain how success is currently defined (grades, college acceptance, achievements, happiness, etc.) and where those ideas come from. Then, consider whether that definition truly reflects personal values or if it is shaped by expectations from family, school, or society.

At this stage, success reflects good grades and being active. We are trying to learn how the world works and work our way in. We have to apply to colleges. We have to study for at least 1 test a week. We are just getting taught to work with stress because that is what the real world is. This isn't freedom but the only true freedom is in the wild. these days we have to work and pay to live. Today in class we completed a connections work sheet. We also completed an identifying sheet.  Today I learned who Everett Ruoss is.

Chris chooses independence over relationships. When have you chosen to be on your own instead of relying on others? What happened, and would you make the same choice again?

A lot of times at the lake I will leave on a boat by myself. It helps me to relax if I'm getting annoyed with things. I've done this a lot. I'll wake up and have some breakfast, while everyone's up at the house I jump in the whaler and drive off. My I usually just go to the middle of the lake and lay in the sun but its a great way to start my day, because after I feel like I have calmed down. Today in class had group chapter review. We received homework as well. Today I learned a new song.

Choose a vocabulary word from Lesson 10 that resonates with you personally. Write a blog post explaining why this word is significant to you, including any personal memories or experiences that link you to the word.

The word luminous is significant to me. It is significant because I am the most familiar with that word. I heard the word a lot in the Harry Potter series. I was familiar with the word meaning bright. I have used the word a lot to. For example on my Siri, on my phone, I say Lumos to turn on the flashlight. I also can say Axos to turn the light off. Today in class we did vocabulary. I listened to music too. Today I learned about how we have to practice during snow.

For most of you, yesterday you took the SAT. If you did not, you will take it before you leave high school. What is your desired SAT score? Identify your top three colleges and explain why each school appeals to you.

I want to get a 1400 but it is very hard for me to achieve that. I have been getting tutored. I have completed 9 practice tests and 4 real ones. The main school I want to go to is UGA. My sister made it in but my brother didn't.  These days its super hard to get into that school. The test scores for that school are crazy and everyone wants to go. Today in class we completed a paper assignment. We also read chapter 4. Today I learned that Alex McCandless was not sexually oriented.

Twice a year we adjust our clocks for daylight saving time, but the change can affect our sleep, energy, and daily routines. Now that we have sprung forward; reflect on how this time change impacts you personally. Do you find it easy or difficult to adjust your schedule? Explain how the time change affects your mood, productivity, or daily habits.

When the time adjusts forward I find it much harder to get used to. I lose an hour of sleep which is so annoying to me. I like how it lets the sun set later. It gives more time for sports and other activities. Also when its like 7:30 it's not pitch black outside anymore. This makes my parents feel more open to letting me do things around these times because it's not "night time". Today in class we read chapter 6. We also completed a paper using the 3-2-1 strategy. Today I learned how to use a vector formula.

In Chapter 5 of Into the Wild, McCandless is strongly influenced by writers like Jack London, whose stories shape the way he thinks about adventure and wilderness. Has a book, song, musician, or artist ever influenced the way you think about life, goals, or the world around you? Identify the specific book, song, musician, or artist and explain how their ideas or message affected your thinking.

The Percy Jackson series made me think I had secret powers. I always loved Poseidon so when I saw the movie for the first time I full thought I had powers. I would stare at water and try to move it. One time the water rippled but it was just my mom walking into the room. I read the entire series and when I finished I did deep dives on the internet about powers. Today in class I talked with friends. I also read chapter 5. Today I learned they will actually tow your car.

In Into the Wild, Christopher McCandless gives up many of his possessions in pursuit of freedom and meaningful experiences. If you had to simplify your life and keep only a few important possessions, what would you keep and why? What would be hardest to leave behind?

I would keep my phone for safety. I would keep my car for transportation. I would try and keep my bed because everyone needs a good place to sleep. Something that would be really hard to give up would be my avengers blanket. I grew up with it and have a bond I cannot explain. I have gone long times without it but the second I see it I just yearn to feel it. Today we worked on the writable. I also completed this blog post. Today I learned about vectoring.

People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

I used to hangout with people every day. I wouldn't give my time any rest because I just wanted to keep try and doing things. Over time I felt like events others would see as really fun was just something I felt was okay. Not that it was bad but just that I had been stimulated for so long so things desensitized. I started trying to relax some and not spend all my time with people. This helped me to value moments with friends more. It helped me to have fun. It taught me that sometimes less fun is more fun. Today in class we read chapters 2-3. We also completed this paper on it. Today I learned that a 2006 jeep cant go over 75 miles an hour.

After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

I think Chris is a very "just do it" kinda guy. I think he has always felt held back and so now that he has a chance to have more freedom he just takes it to the max. I do not think he fully understands the risks he is taking. I think he believes he can do anything that is needed. He doesn't believe he needs any materials or supplies at all. The details just show that he is going into this fully blind. Today we read a book together. I also completed this blog post. Today I learned how to downshift better.

Prompt: Today you worked on creating your Vocabulary Digital Cards in Adobe Express. In one well-developed paragraph, reflect on the assignment by explaining which vocabulary word was easiest for you to understand, which word was most challenging, and how creating your own sentence and selecting an image helped strengthen your understanding of the vocabulary. Use specific examples from your work.

Today the word that was easiest for me to grasp was toady. I understood this because i often get I am very flattering. The hardest word for me to understand was recrimination because it didn't have any synonyms that helped me to understand. Creating my own sentence helped me to have to understand the word better. The image was tricky for me because I would get to specific and they wouldn't have pictures for what I was trying to portray. Today in class we worked on this the whole time. I listened to music as well. Today I learned how good Johns Creek was at lacrosse.

After viewing your classmates’ digital posters and reading the feedback comments left on your work, what new ideas or perspectives did you gain about your poster? Reflect on how the feedback influenced the way you think about your creative choices and describe what you learned about the creative process while designing and presenting your poster.

I have become more familiar with colors that blend well. Almost all of the comments on my poster were about my color graduation. I had some people enjoy my similes of overthinking as well. I feel this had improved my confidence in my words. It shows me that when I really try to dive deep and create something not found on the surface.  Today in class I was driving down to parents weekend to visit my brother. I tried getting hot-spot to work but it wouldn't connect. Today I learned the drive to Georgia Southern is 3.5 hours.
