Write about something that you believed as a child.

I believed in Santa. Probably everyone is doing this; I mean, even the cover picture features Santa. I don't know what it is, but he just seemed so real. I had tw older siblings who always went along with it too. They would lie to me and swear on their newborn's life that he was real. We even had a Santa tracker every year that I would watch before going to bed. It wasn't until late elementary school that I began to become aware. I had heard forever rumors that he wasn't, but my siblings would convince me he was. Finally, a teacher spoiled it for me. Never looked at my siblings the same since. Today in class, we worked on these vocabulary words. We also watched very deceiving advertisements about hardies. Today I learned how to change a tire with broken treads.

Write about a fear you have overcome.

I have overcome my fear of rollercoasters. I used to be terrified of them. I would cry when I was pressured and just never wanted to do the big ones. One night, my sister and I were at six flags, and it was closing time. We were over on Goliath, and there was no one. Finally, I said yes, and we rode in the front row. Best experience ever. I was shaking, I was trembling. The ride up the tracks felt like an eternity. But after that first drop, it became amazing. I was screaming my lungs off. When it ended, I wanted more. We then went on it 7 consecutive times. Today in class, we worked as a group. My group got a good amount done. Today I learned how to change a tire onto a different size rim.

As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

A subject I feel like I will debate often is A.I. I feel like we are giving it too much control. I am terrified of robots taking over, and I fear that will happen in the future. AI has already stated that humans are the destroyers of the environment. I don't feel comfortable with the way AI is evolving. I debate because everyone says that safeguards are in place. Or also they will say AI wouldn't actually do that. Realistically, if AI computed it, then the most reasonable answer is to wipe out the human population. Today in class, we took notes. We also completed a worksheet on the notes we took. Today I learned how to shop for brake lines.

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

We had this choir teacher who had been there for a long, long time. Both my siblings grew up with him, and they were like a mother from another family. I had known her since I could remember writing. She had a daughter in my brother's grade. So when my brother graduated 5 years ahead of me, she told us the news that she was leaving the next fall. I was devastated because I wanted her to guide me through my high school years. I never wanted to accept it, and when I said goodbye for the last time, it didn't feel real. I hadn't seen her for 3 years until this summer. We had a lot to catch up on. Today in class, we took some notes. We also put paper in each other's hair. Today I learned how to spray paint the A-frame on a 1971 Chevy square body.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

In 8th grade, I was judged by my French teacher. In words, my mom called it guilt association. I talked a lot, but I always did my work. I didn't try disrupting class.  The kid next to me was named Zachary, and he talked a lot. He didn't do his work and would distract people. He would often get written up for detention. Since I was next to him, she would yell at me, too. I really wasn't doing anything, though. I did my work and got good grades. It even got to the point where she put my name on a detention slip and showed it to me. I got so tired of it, I told my parents. I was moved to a different seat in that class. The times I got into trouble, I deserved it. Today in class, we did a common lit. We also sat in complete silence. Today I learned about jobs at Hennesy and how much they make per hour.  I also learned the requirements you need to work there.

Imagine you are learning about Hispanic/Latino heritage for the very first time. What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

I would be curious on how they created those recipes. Latino food is so delicious. I could eat it for the rest of my life. Some of those foods enlighten me. I would try to figure out the recipes so I could start cooking them. I also want to know their faviorate songs. I have my faviorate songs and I want to learn about theirs too. Today in class we learned how to cluster. We also talked about how bad the cheifs are. Today I learned how to change springs.

After viewing your classmates’ poem posters, select one presentation that caught your attention. Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

Lukes was pretty good because it stood out from the rest of the presentations. Not in a good way as it was my worst grade. I learned from it to always check that my microphone is on. I learned to make the letters big so I can be able to read them. I also learned I should always have a back up plan. Yes I love the football team but man that was a learning moment even for me. On the creativity side I looked up Georgia Football and the first 2 pictures that came up were the 2 he used. He didnt even try to make it stand out. I will learn from his mistakes. Today in class we presented our poems. We also graded eachothers poems on our own chart. Today I learned how to back up a trailer into a shop.

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

When I played hockey we had the same coach for years. I basically grew up with him. His son was one of my good friends and I would stay there before tournements. When they had to move away to memphis when I was in 4th grade. What threw me off was starting the next season and having the new coach. He didnt understand me. He didnt know how I learned or would improve and it just felt so out of place. I felt like he was intruding on something I had done the same way for years. I missed my old coach and I miss taymaz. Today in class we read ¨The interlopers¨ on common lit. We also completed a blog and sat in silence. Today I learned the difference between radians and degrees.

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

I will use aesthetic a good amount because ive already used it multiple times in the past. Im comfortable with that word. I typically call things please and stuff a lot. But since now I really know the definition I feel it will expand my vocabulary. If I start using that word more then people will think I am smarter. I will also use affinity because I feel like I say I love things a lot. Thats not the exact definition of it but it gets my point across. It also makes it seem like i know what I am talking about. I think at last I will use animosity a lot because people wont understand it. I could tell someone I truly dont like that I have a feeling of animosity towards them and they will be clueless. Today in class we worked on these 15 vocabulary words. We also put them to use by choosing which one fits the sentence the best. Today I learned how to calculate radians into degrees.

It’s Homecoming Week! 🎉 What do you love most about being part of the Lakeside community? How do you show off your school spirit? What is your favorite Homecoming tradition or event?

I love being a student. I love hanging with friends and just being young. I don't have to pay bills. I don't have to go to work. Yeah, I have to go to school, but it's a little bit different. I love the Friday night feeling free. I show my spirit the most I can. The most outrageous outfits I own, I will wear. I love showing off school spirit because I used it up while I'm still young. My faviorate hoco transition is the football game. Everyone is cheering and screaming, and I love the stimulation. I love just being surrounded by spirit. Today in class, we did a quiz. I feel pretty good about it, but I feel like I could always do better.  Today I learned how to change brake lines on a 197 Chevy.

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

By hands-on activities, do you mean like making posters on paper? In other classes, I would prefer hands-on because I feel that's my main way of learning. In a lit class, though, I feel like that is not the case because I have never been a very good writer. In lit, I feel like class discussions are good because you can publicly hear other people's opinions. This is helpful because it helps you to get to know the other people as well. The worksheet work can sometimes help me learn. I just feel that with ELA classes, it's switched since it's out of my comfort zone. In class, we worked on our poems. I found photos of cars and finished writing my poem. Today I learned how to animate a person speaking with my voice.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

I like breaking down a good poem. When I break it down, I start to see things I didn't see the first time. I also started to understand more things. A good poem will hook me into understanding it, and I want to know all I can about it. If I don't understand the poem, how can I enjoy it to the fullest?  Today in class, we started our own poem. I was drawing blanks, so the teacher helped me. Today, I learned the difference between 5W-30 and 10W-30 oil.

After reading Lawrence Ferlinghetti's poem "Constantly Risking Absurdity," which explores the poet's daring craft, write about your most absurd personal experience. Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish. Ensure your response is vivid, concise, and captures the essence of absurdity.

So we were in my friend's jeep. No, jeeps are not reliable, nor are they very safe. My friend was very confident in his car and said it goes super fast. So we were speeding up very slowly(it is a jeep) and we got to about 103 miles an hour. Everything was fine until that pothole appeared. We hit it, and the wheel jerked, and the whole car went sideways. We were screaming and thought we were gonna flip, but he jerked the wheel the other way. We flew onto 2 wheels and were going side to side. In that moment, everything flashed before my eyes. This was not bold; it was very foolish. Somehow, the jeep didn't flip over, and we straightened it back out, but we were in the shoulder lane and slowed down. We left the highway and stopped driving to shake all the adrenaline off. Today in class, we watched 2 YouTube videos. We also read a poem with a funky layout. Today I learned how to connect a U-Joint.

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

I would choose young, wild and free. I would choose this because right now is one of those times you truly start to expierence freedom. I have my license, a later curfew, and friends from all over. Before school had started I was never home. School has slowed me down a good bit but I still try to live life. This song perfectly describes me because I amd all three of those words. Today in class we did a test. The test was hard and I didnt get that good of a grade. I learned how to change breaks on a chevy tahoe in school today.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

It would probaly be about my liking of cars. Since I was young Ive always loved them. ive been obbssed with the roar, the mechanics, just how it works. I could never undertsand it and thats what intrigued me so much. Leading on to this, my overall life's message would be to work with your hands. This is because its the only way I can get something done. Any other way and i procrastinate and it takes me ages. This would fall into the topic of my future career. Today in class we reviwed poems together. We also spent some time making our own soundtracks connected to these poems. Today I learned how to identify a oil leak on a 2011 Mazda RX-7.

You’ve been in American Literature for 4.5 weeks now. How has the class been going for you so far?

It's been going really well. At first, I was a little shaky because this class seemed so challenging, and I thought I would be miserable. Buit'sts more like a good challenge, like all the questions are making me do deep thinking. I like the teacher's questions because they make me think really deeply. I am starting to like this class more and more every day, and can't wait to see how much I improve. Today in class, we reviewed the poem" Because I could not stop for death". We analyzed it together and explained it. Today I learned how to clean up brake pads on antique cars.
