Write about a time you felt connected to nature, like the kinship in Native American myths.

I felt connected to nature when I was hiking in the mountains of Switzerland. I was there for 2 weeks, and one day we hiked the mountains dividing France and Italy. At the top of the peak, there were 2 flags for both countries. In my life, this was one of those moments where I realized nature was all around me. The flags were next to each other, and not even 10 feet behind them was a 200ft drop off onto sharp rocks. It made me realize that we are all the same. Nature is trying to push through and survive just like I am. My struggle to get through school is the equivalent of Grass trying to grow through cracks in a driveway.

In class today, we went through slides about Native Americans and their history in literature. We also talked about themes they associated with the most.

I learned in class today that themes Native Americans used so long ago are still so popular today.

Reflect on a time when you paused to appreciate the beauty of nature, much like the speaker in “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” Where were you, what did you notice, and how did that moment of stillness make you feel or change your perspective?

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Words shape how we think, write, and interpret literature. Think about a time when learning a new word or understanding a specific term helped you better analyze a text, express an idea, or make your writing stronger.
